John Deere 4300 stalls when put into gear

I have a very used John Deere 4300 and sometimes (most of the time) when I start it and I try to move by putting it into gear it just stalls out. Sometimes it goes all day and sometimes I try 25 times with no luck!? Any suggestions? I thought it was the seat safety switch but I by passed that.
